  • Funded Japan - UNDP Kicks off Tokyo Football League II in Gaza Jul 10, 2017

    UNDP and the Government of Japan, in partnership with the Palestinian Football Association, kicked off the Tokyo Football League II in the Gaza Strip. The project is part of their shared commitment to empowering youth in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through the “Tamkeen- Emergence Response to Palestinian Youth through Sports Initiatives” project, funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 386,000.

    On the occasion of Ramadan, UNDP/PAPP and the European Union, in partnership with the Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jerusalem and the Islamic Waqf, hosted a Ramadan Sufi Night on 20 June 2017 at the Palestinian National Theatre in Jerusalem. The event was organized as part of the Productivity and Urban Renewal Programme in East Jerusalem (PURE), funded by the European Union and the Islamic Development Bank and implemented by UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People.

  • UNDP Marks World Environment Day by Cleaning Gaza Beach Jun 5, 2017

    Commemorating the 2017 World Environment Day, under the theme “Connecting People with Nature”, UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People, with the help of volunteers from Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures Programme, cleaned 15,000 square meters of Gaza’s beach. According to a recent study by the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority, almost 50% of Gaza beach is polluted and not suitable for swimming.

  • Bethlehem Municipality inaugurates Road Rehabilitation Works with support from the Government of Italy and UNDP May 26, 2017

    Bethlehem Municipality, the Government of Italy and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People inaugurate the Caritas Road at the northern entrance of Bethlehem City, under the Facilitating Access to Infrastructure Resilience in Area C and East Jerusalem (FAIR) programme, a multi-donor platform which aims to empower and strengthen national institutions to plan and deliver essential public and social services in Area C and East Jerusalem. The programme is supported by Italy, Norway, Bahrain and OFID, for projects worth over USD 11 million.

  • The Government of Germany and UNDP Open Basketball Playground for Youth in East Jerusalem May 25, 2017

    The Federal Republic of Germany, through its German Development Bank KfW, the Islamic Development Bank, Burj Al Luq Luq Social Centre and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP), inaugurated a basketball playground at the Burj Al LuqLuq Social Centre for youth in the old city of Jerusalem. The project targets around 3,100 male and female youth from the old city of Jerusalem and aims at creating an enabling environment for them to practice sports and enhance their capacities.

  • UNDP Disburses Compensations for Totally Damaged Housing Units in Gaza May 17, 2017

    With financial support from the Saudi Fund for Development, UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People was able to disburse compensation payments, amounting USD 1 million, for 89 non-refugee families whose homes were totally damaged during the 2014 hostilities.

  • The Government of Germany and UNDP Open the First Youth Village in the West Bank May 17, 2017

    The Federal Republic of Germany, through its German Development Bank KfW, Sharek Youth Forum, UNFPA, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP), marked the opening of the first youth village in Kufur Ne’mah in the West Bank, as a pioneering integrated project implemented by Palestinian youth in open air. The construction of the eco-park and youth campground over a 5000 m2 area was funded by the Federal Republic of Germany for the amount of Euro 100,000, through phase 10 of its employment generation programme, and implemented by UNDP. The project, which generated over 1,700 work days, included a multipurpose hall, sanitary units, kitchenette, underground water tank, stone walls and seating areas, yards and corridors among others.

  • Chamber of Commerce and UNDP Sign Agreement in Support of Private Sector Development in East Jerusalem with Funds from EU May 8, 2017

    In the presence of European Union Head of Cooperation Alessandra Viezzer, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP) and the Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jerusalem signed a cooperation agreement to provide business development support, and financial and urban planning legal assistance to the enterprises targeted in Salah Eddin and Sultan Suleiman Streets as part of the Productivity and Urban Renewal Programme funded by the European Union and the Islamic Development Bank. The different components of the project will address the needs of businesses and local shop owners, as well as the local population at large by creating an enabling environment for competitive and attractive commercial gateways.

  • Creating the Basis for a Dignified Life Mar 16, 2017

    The Federal Republic of Germany, through its German Development Bank KfW, and the United Nations Development Programme marked the inauguration of the Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center in an effort to support the integration of persons with disabilities into the Palestinian community and improve their livelihoods. Rehabilitation works covered a total area of approximately 500 m2 and generated approximately 1,237 workdays, including 78 for women.
