  • Workshop marking World Mental Health Day supported by Al-Fakhoora and UNDP Oct 10, 2016

    On World Mental Health Day, more than 100 professionals were brought forward to participate at a workshop entitled "Psychological First Aid Services: The Palestinian Experience", organized by the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) through Al Fakhoora, programme of Education above All Foundation.The workshop, which comes as part of the mental health component in the Right to Education Programme in Gaza, reiterated the importance and effectiveness of psychological first aid as an immediate intervention approach, especially for traumatized children and women in times of crises, and shared the different experiences and lessons learnt of the main stakeholders and providers of mental health services in the Gaza Strip.

  • Rebuilding 12 schools across the Gaza Strip through the Right to Education Programme Sep 29, 2016

    As part of continuous efforts to support education in the Gaza Strip, Education Above All (EAA) Foundation through their Al Fakhoora programme has partnered with the Qatar Fund for Development (QDF) and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People to launch the first phase of the Right to Education Programme, successfully rebuilding 65 classrooms in 12 government schools. The programme, which reconstructs and rehabilitates educational facilities damaged and destroyed during the 2014 hostilities on Gaza, will reach over 600,000 Palestinian young people by 2020.

    Commemorating the 2016 International Youth Day UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People and the United Nations Volunteers Programme organized the distribution of school supplies to 250 children in Jenin Refugee Camp.

  • Statement on Media Reports concerning UN Accusation of Palestinian Authority on Rubble Removal in Gaza Aug 14, 2016

    UNDP/PAPP corrects, for the record, that the UN has never accused the Palestinian Authority of diverting the rubble in Gaza in any of its statements, as has been circulated by some media outlets today. UNDP works in partnership and coordination with the Palestinian Authority to implement projects in Gaza, including the rubble removal project.

  • Updated Statement on UNDP/PAPP Aug 12, 2016

    UNDP has zero tolerance for wrongdoing in its programmes and projects and is committed to the highest standards of transparency and accountability. UNDP has undertaken a review to examine the facts related to statements contained in Mr. Al Bursh’s charge sheet. UNDP has established that the rubble in question was transported to its destination according to written instructions from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Palestinian Authority as to where it should be placed.

    On 03 July 2016, Mr. Waheed Al Bursh, a contractor of the United Nations Development Programme/Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP) was detained at Israeli passport control while entering Gaza through the Erez crossing. UNDP has zero tolerance for wrongdoing in all of its programmes and projects. UNDP is greatly concerned by the allegation from the Israeli authorities with respect to the UNDP contractor who has been providing professional services within the rubble removal project. UNDP would like to reassure its partners, donors and stakeholders that it has robust measures in place to ensure that the rubble, which is removed and crushed, goes to its intended purpose and has been transferred to specific locations with the request and approval of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

  • USD 2 million for Youth Economic Initiatives in the West Bank Aug 2, 2016

    The Ministry of Social Development, the Higher Council for Youth and Sports and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People launched a tripartite partnership, worth USD 2.1 million from the Islamic Development Bank, to support youth economic initiatives in the West Bank. The project will target youth through microfinance, grants and job placements. Around 300 young people from the West Bank will be targeted at the initial phase, with a total of 2000 to benefit over a two-year period.

  • USD 5 million for Youth Job Creation Programme in Gaza Jul 28, 2016

    The Ministry of Labour, represented by H.E. Mamoun Abu Shahla, and UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator, Roberto Valent, signed a USD 5 million Memorandum of Understanding to implement the Rapid Employment Generation project in the Gaza Strip, targeting recent graduates and unemployed youth.

  • Brazil Ambassador Visits UNDP Projects in Gaza Jul 12, 2016

    Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the State of Palestine, H.E. Francisco Mauro Brazil De Holanada, accompanied by First Secretary of the Embassy Mr Ricardo Fleury visited the Gaza Strip on 12 July 2016. The purpose of the visit was to see first hand the situation in Gaza and some of the projects funded by the Federative Republic of Brazil.

  • Table Tennis Championship and Tokyo Football League Underway in Gaza with Funds from the Government of Japan Apr 12, 2016

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan kicked off the second stage of the Tokyo Football League and Table Tennis Championship in the Gaza Strip. Both activities are part of the “Support to Youth and the Sports Sector in the Gaza Strip” project funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 153,430. The project aims at encouraging youth in Gaza, where many people have been affected by the continuous conflicts and even lost their hope for the future due to the long-standing siege.
