  • Bethlehem Municipality inaugurates Road Rehabilitation Works with support from the Government of Italy and UNDP May 26, 2017

    Bethlehem Municipality, the Government of Italy and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People inaugurate the Caritas Road at the northern entrance of Bethlehem City, under the Facilitating Access to Infrastructure Resilience in Area C and East Jerusalem (FAIR) programme, a multi-donor platform which aims to empower and strengthen national institutions to plan and deliver essential public and social services in Area C and East Jerusalem. The programme is supported by Italy, Norway, Bahrain and OFID, for projects worth over USD 11 million.

  • The Government of Germany and UNDP Open Basketball Playground for Youth in East Jerusalem May 25, 2017

    The Federal Republic of Germany, through its German Development Bank KfW, the Islamic Development Bank, Burj Al Luq Luq Social Centre and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP), inaugurated a basketball playground at the Burj Al LuqLuq Social Centre for youth in the old city of Jerusalem. The project targets around 3,100 male and female youth from the old city of Jerusalem and aims at creating an enabling environment for them to practice sports and enhance their capacities.

  • The Government of Germany and UNDP Open the First Youth Village in the West Bank May 17, 2017

    The Federal Republic of Germany, through its German Development Bank KfW, Sharek Youth Forum, UNFPA, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP), marked the opening of the first youth village in Kufur Ne’mah in the West Bank, as a pioneering integrated project implemented by Palestinian youth in open air. The construction of the eco-park and youth campground over a 5000 m2 area was funded by the Federal Republic of Germany for the amount of Euro 100,000, through phase 10 of its employment generation programme, and implemented by UNDP. The project, which generated over 1,700 work days, included a multipurpose hall, sanitary units, kitchenette, underground water tank, stone walls and seating areas, yards and corridors among others.

  • Chamber of Commerce and UNDP Sign Agreement in Support of Private Sector Development in East Jerusalem with Funds from EU May 8, 2017

    In the presence of European Union Head of Cooperation Alessandra Viezzer, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP) and the Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jerusalem signed a cooperation agreement to provide business development support, and financial and urban planning legal assistance to the enterprises targeted in Salah Eddin and Sultan Suleiman Streets as part of the Productivity and Urban Renewal Programme funded by the European Union and the Islamic Development Bank. The different components of the project will address the needs of businesses and local shop owners, as well as the local population at large by creating an enabling environment for competitive and attractive commercial gateways.

  • The Government of Germany and UNDP Inaugurate Yabous Bookshop in East Jerusalem Mar 8, 2017

    The Federal Republic of Germany, through its German Development Bank KfW, Yabous Cultural Centre and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP), marked the inauguration of the bookshop space at the Yabous Cultural Centre in an effort to promote social and cultural exchanges in East Jerusalem. The project aims at providing an environment that encourages and promotes social and cultural activities organized at the bookshop.

  • Over 40,000 Temporary Workdays Generated through the Youth Employability and Protection Project in Gaza Mar 5, 2017

    UNDP and the Government of Japan concluded the Gaza Youth Employability Protection in the Gaza Strip project. 430 youth were given the opportunity to develop their skills and livelihoods.

  • Under the Auspices of H.E. Prime Minister Al Hamdallah - Ministry of Local Government, Italy and UNDP Celebrate Completion of projects in Area C Feb 8, 2017

    The completed projects were funded by the Government of Italy for the amount of Euro 3 million and implemented through UNDP’s Facilitating Access to Infrastructure Resilience in Area C and East Jerusalem programme (FAIR). With Italian financing, the programme was able to Improve access of 90,000 people in the West Bank through public transportation infrastructure, provide better living conditions for 1,500 Palestinians through the rehabilitation of housing units in East Jerusalem, create 17,400 job opportunities for Palestinian labourers and provide a better learning environment to 200 students by utilizing an inclusive early childhood development facility.

  • Under the Auspices of the Minister of Local Government The Government of Japan and UNDP Inaugurate Solid Waste Landfill in Jericho Feb 8, 2017

    The Ministry of Local Government, the Environment Quality Authority, the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP), marked the inauguration of the Jericho landfill expansion for improved solid waste management in the Jericho and Jordan River Rift Valley area. The expansion of the Jericho landfill project is funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 3.1 million and implemented by UNDP/PAPP. The project is expected to benefit over 50,000 residents in Jericho and surrounding communities, safeguard the environment and have an impact on the economy.

  • UNDP statement, attributable to a UNDP Spokesperson on Waheed Al Bursh Case Jan 4, 2017

    UNDP has noted the court’s finding that Mr. Al Bursh has been sentenced for providing services to an illegal entity, without intent to cause harm. The court indicates that Mr. Al Bursh will be released on 12 January 2017. This outcome confirms that there was no wrongdoing by UNDP. UNDP has zero tolerance for wrongdoing in its programmes and is committed to the highest standards of transparency and accountability.

  • Education Above All increases investment in a new generation of leaders in Gaza Dec 18, 2016

    Education Above All (EAA), through its programme Al Fakhoora, and in partnership with UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People, awarded 265 new scholarships to young leaders in the Gaza Strip. This will enable young people to attend university, build a better future for themselves and their families, and lead their communities toward a more peaceful future. These scholarships represent an unprecedented investment in higher education in Gaza. It is the largest ever intake for Al Fakhoora’s scholarship programme, Dynamic Futures.
