  • Tokyo Football League II Celebrates End of Season in Gaza Sep 11, 2017

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan, in partnership with the Palestinian Football Association, celebrated the closing of the Tokyo Football League II with the final match between Rafah and Al Shujaiya teams at the Palestine Stadium in Gaza city. The project is part of their shared commitment to empower youth in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through the Tamkeen - Emergency Response to Palestinian Youth through Sport Initiative project, funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 386,000. Around 5,200 male and female youth participated in Tamkeen’s various sports activities across the Gaza Strip.

  • UNDP Inaugurate Hangars at the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park Aug 28, 2017

    The Government of Japan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of National Economy, the Palestinian Industrial Estates and Free Zones Authority (PIEFZA), and the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park Company (JAIPCo.) inaugurated today 11 industrial hangars that will be used by the Palestinian private sector at the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park (JAIP) for warehouse, production and operational purposes. The two phases of the project generated over 10,000 workdays for Palestinians in Jericho and the rest of the West Bank.

  • UNDP Celebrates International Youth Day with Al Fakhoora Scholars in Gaza Aug 24, 2017

    Celebrating the 2017 International Youth Day under the theme “Youth Building Peace”, UNDP’s Right to Education Programme in Gaza, with the help of volunteers from Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures Programme, conducted site visits to some of the historical and cultural sites across the Gaza Strip. The tour aimed at raising awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while promoting a culture of peace and tolerance among youth and their role in conserving cultural heritage.

  • The European Union and UNDP Inaugurate the Newly Revitalized Khan Al Wakaleh Tourism Site in Nablus Aug 21, 2017

    His Excellency EU Representative Ralf Tarraf, UNDP Representative Roberto Valent, together with the Mayor of Nablus, Engineer Adli Ya’eesh and Governor of Nablus Mr Akram Rujoob marked the opening of the newly revitalized Khan Al Wakalah historical site in Nablus. It is estimated that around 40,000 local and international visitors are expected to visit the site annually. Through the deployment of the first Public-Private Partnership model in the management and operation of cultural sites, 21 rooms were rehabilitated to be used as a boutique hotel and guest house, in addition to the 11 shops that were upgraded on location for serving the economic purposes of the compound.

  • Funded by the Government of Japan UNDP concludes “Dreams and Friends 2” Summer Camp and Volleyball Tournament- sitting in Gaza Aug 16, 2017

    Reflecting their mutual commitment to empowering youth in the West Bank and Gaza, UNDP and the Government of Japan, in partnership with Cannan Institute of New Pedagogy and the Palestinian Olympic Committee, celebrated the end of the summer camps “Dreams and Friends 2” and the Volleyball Tournament-sitting in Gaza. The summer camps and volleyball tournament were organized as part of the Tamkeen- Emergency Response to Palestinian Youth through Sport Initiative project, funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 386,000. Around 5000 male and female youth participated in Tamkeen’s various sport activities.

    Gaza’s private sector, the engine of future economic growth potential, is presently incapacitated due to the blockade, restrictions on movement and access to natural resources and markets, and recurrent destructive wars, according to the latest Gaza economic recovery report released today by UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People in Gaza, and authored by Dr Mohammed Samhouri.

    On the occasion of Ramadan, UNDP/PAPP and the European Union, in partnership with the Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jerusalem and the Islamic Waqf, hosted a Ramadan Sufi Night on 20 June 2017 at the Palestinian National Theatre in Jerusalem. The event was organized as part of the Productivity and Urban Renewal Programme in East Jerusalem (PURE), funded by the European Union and the Islamic Development Bank and implemented by UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People.

  • UNDP Marks World Environment Day by Cleaning Gaza Beach Jun 5, 2017

    Commemorating the 2017 World Environment Day, under the theme “Connecting People with Nature”, UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People, with the help of volunteers from Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures Programme, cleaned 15,000 square meters of Gaza’s beach. According to a recent study by the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority, almost 50% of Gaza beach is polluted and not suitable for swimming.

  • Bethlehem Municipality inaugurates Road Rehabilitation Works with support from the Government of Italy and UNDP May 26, 2017

    Bethlehem Municipality, the Government of Italy and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People inaugurate the Caritas Road at the northern entrance of Bethlehem City, under the Facilitating Access to Infrastructure Resilience in Area C and East Jerusalem (FAIR) programme, a multi-donor platform which aims to empower and strengthen national institutions to plan and deliver essential public and social services in Area C and East Jerusalem. The programme is supported by Italy, Norway, Bahrain and OFID, for projects worth over USD 11 million.
