UNDP Concludes Female Ping Pong and Volleyball Tournaments in Gaza

128 Female students, aging between 18 – 23, participated in the Female Ping Pong and Volleyball tournaments in Gaza today. This was organized as part of the Tamkeen project, funded by Japan and implemented by UNDP.

The project, which is supported by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 385,866, builds on the upcoming Palestinian National Youth Strategy, and the efforts made by UNDP and its partners to strengthen youth engagement in sports as a tool to promote positive attitudes, team building, and social cohesion. The project will focus on increasing the participation of young people of both genders in team sports and improve the psychosocial and physical conditions for disadvantaged children in the Gaza Strip.
The EU and UNDP Host “A Journey into Salah Eddin and Sultan Suleiman Streets” Photography Exhibition

The exhibition takes the audience on a journey through the old streets of Salah Eddin and Sultan Suleiman, illustrating historic photographs and memories of some 25 shop owners with their old family photos at the shop; a tradition that has been passed on from one generation to another. These owners are having their shops, which are housed in Waqf buildings, rehabilitated through the PURE programme.

First report on the partnership between the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Arab States was released today in Brussels. “From constitutional change that finally recognizes the voices of women, to democratic elections, to innovative programmes that help turn the young away from the siren song of violent extremism, our joint work is at the forefront of change in the Arab world”, said Mourad Wahba, Director of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States.
Tokyo Football League II Celebrates End of Season in Gaza

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan, in partnership with the Palestinian Football Association, celebrated the closing of the Tokyo Football League II with the final match between Rafah and Al Shujaiya teams at the Palestine Stadium in Gaza city. The project is part of their shared commitment to empower youth in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through the Tamkeen - Emergency Response to Palestinian Youth through Sport Initiative project, funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 386,000. Around 5,200 male and female youth participated in Tamkeen’s various sports activities across the Gaza Strip.
UNDP Inaugurate Hangars at the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park

The Government of Japan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of National Economy, the Palestinian Industrial Estates and Free Zones Authority (PIEFZA), and the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park Company (JAIPCo.) inaugurated today 11 industrial hangars that will be used by the Palestinian private sector at the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park (JAIP) for warehouse, production and operational purposes. The two phases of the project generated over 10,000 workdays for Palestinians in Jericho and the rest of the West Bank.
UNDP Celebrates International Youth Day with Al Fakhoora Scholars in Gaza

Celebrating the 2017 International Youth Day under the theme “Youth Building Peace”, UNDP’s Right to Education Programme in Gaza, with the help of volunteers from Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures Programme, conducted site visits to some of the historical and cultural sites across the Gaza Strip. The tour aimed at raising awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while promoting a culture of peace and tolerance among youth and their role in conserving cultural heritage.
The European Union and UNDP Inaugurate the Newly Revitalized Khan Al Wakaleh Tourism Site in Nablus

His Excellency EU Representative Ralf Tarraf, UNDP Representative Roberto Valent, together with the Mayor of Nablus, Engineer Adli Ya’eesh and Governor of Nablus Mr Akram Rujoob marked the opening of the newly revitalized Khan Al Wakalah historical site in Nablus. It is estimated that around 40,000 local and international visitors are expected to visit the site annually. Through the deployment of the first Public-Private Partnership model in the management and operation of cultural sites, 21 rooms were rehabilitated to be used as a boutique hotel and guest house, in addition to the 11 shops that were upgraded on location for serving the economic purposes of the compound.

Reflecting their mutual commitment to empowering youth in the West Bank and Gaza, UNDP and the Government of Japan, in partnership with Cannan Institute of New Pedagogy and the Palestinian Olympic Committee, celebrated the end of the summer camps “Dreams and Friends 2” and the Volleyball Tournament-sitting in Gaza. The summer camps and volleyball tournament were organized as part of the Tamkeen- Emergency Response to Palestinian Youth through Sport Initiative project, funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 386,000. Around 5000 male and female youth participated in Tamkeen’s various sport activities.
