Crisis Prevention and Recovery
In line with the UNDP Strategic Plan, UNDP/PAPP seeks to provide transformational, contextualized, targeted yet integrated responses to the recovery and resilience-based development agenda, while working more systematically in support of socio-economic, and institutional de-fragmentation, and in response to and responsive to the global SDG agenda. Nation building and social cohesion remain a major priority, particularly after the end of more than a ten-year long Palestinian divide between Hamas and Fatah in October 2017 and the Palestinian Government of National Consensus assuming its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.
The development trajectory of the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) continues to be shaped by the severe political constraints. Restrictions on economic and productive activities severely impair the Palestinian economy and its potential for growth. Humanitarian needs in Gaza are particularly acute and humanitarian services provided by the international community remain a life-line for over 1.1 million people. Youth unemployment rates in Gaza (62%) are among the highest in the world, and are far higher than that of any of the countries in the Arab region.more
